Broken Down on the Road to Zion
There’s a lot of rumbling among the saints today. Buzzing about the role of women. Concern about polygamy. Fretting about various historical issues. Disquiet about the boundary between inclusion and exclusion. These are unsettled times.
Yet there is nothing quite like a little historical excursion to put today’s challenges in perspective. Sylvester Smith battled Joseph all along the journey of Zion’s Camp. And the whole enterprise of marching out to claim Zion appeared ill-conceived when nothing came of it. Many Kirtland saints turned against Joseph when the bank failed and savings were lost. Many scratched their heads and searched their souls—and some quit their places—when Zion was not established. (Being driven from one Missouri county to another did not seem to fulfill the prophecies!)
There are several ways of making sense of this recurring confusion. Maybe the wheels keep falling off because the whole thing is a badly designed human contraption. Or maybe the Good Ship Zion is part inspired and part human and humans don’t always get their part right. While we could argue the potential for humans to mess things up, I favor another possibility.

The Quorum of the Twelve Before They Were Called: Richard G. Scott
Richard G. Scott serves as an Apostle for the Quorum of the Twelve
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But did you know
that as a kid, his parents trusted him and his brothers to fix the
family car? They once put a caboose whistle on the exhaust manifold as a
joke (“Richard G. Scott”). In this biography of Richard G. Scott, read
about how he came to learn and love the gospel, the influence of his
beloved wife, and his faithfulness to the Church.

Learning, Following, and Teaching the Gospel
Something Was Missing
Richard G. Scott was not raised in a home that was active in the gospel. His father wasn’t a member of the Church, and his mother was inactive. However, his parents did instill good values and character in their children. Richard’s home teachers and ward leaders encouraged him to attend church. However, he admits that he sometimes did so reluctantly.http://lds.net/blog/faith/people/lds-church-leadership/biography-of-richard-g-scott/?utm_content=bufferc7132&utm_medium=social&utm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer#.VJ4d7ANBA

LDSface2face with Lindsey Stirling Nov. 25 | LDS Media Talk
Lindsey Stirling is a returned missionary and a world-famous
violinist and dancer. She will share her own story—including how she
learned to recognize her worth, how she shares the gospel, and how she
has risen above criticism to make a unique contribution to the world.
Lindsey will talk about overcoming trials, embracing who you are, and
not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Lindsey said, “I was
told by so many people that I wouldn’t succeed because I was too
different. Ironically, the very reason that people watch my channel and
travel thousands of miles to see a show … is because it’s different. God
didn’t send us to earth to just blend in. We are here to share what
makes us unique.” Many of Lindsey’s YouTube videos get tens of millions
of views, and a few over 100 million.
Lindsey will also perform live songs at the event–some familiar
pieces and an original composition. One number will be a duet featuring a
special guest.

Youth around the world will have a chance to ask Lindsey questions,
moderated by Young Men general president David L. Beck and Young Women
general president Bonnie L. Oscarson.

The changing foliage colors remind me of the different seasons in life.
Being a great-grandfather now makes me realize that the colors of my life are changing too. How grateful I am for my wife, for the loving comfort and strong support she has been throughout my life. Next to the gift of life itself and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, Harriet is the greatest blessing which has come into my life.
My dear young friends, please use your hearts and minds to find a solid eternal
companion and then trust the Lord. If the result is not according to
your own timetable, stay the course, keep the commandments, and again
trust the Lord! Decide to be happy, because there are many seasons in
life.

Notable Mormon Entrepreneurs and Entertainers
Famous Mormons in Business
It seems that Mitt Romney's run for President of the United States has him under close scrutiny these days. Definitely, he is not the richest person that has run for this office, but the fact that he paid more than ten per cent of his income to the Mormon Church (otherwise known as LDS - to which he belongs) has caused quite a stir. Here are a few other Mormons who have paid the price to be successful in business or in entertainment, and are fairly well known throughout the world.
