The Healing Power of God in Nature: Can You Feel It? | Meridian Magazine

Plants and animals can be physically and spiritually energizing to us.  In Moses 3:9, it states, “And out of the ground made I, the Lord God, to grow every tree, naturally,…and it became also a living soul..”  Anything “living” can enliven us with its spiritual resonance, if we learn how to tune in.

Have you ever spent time focusing on a tree?    As we CONCENTRATE
on the many facets of a tree, we can get so absorbed in the beauty and
energy of it that for those moments, time seems to stand still, and we
stop thinking about our past or future. W
e begin to feel a one-ness instead with the tree and its creator.

Gaze at the light and shadow on the leaves.  How many colors and
textures can you discern on the bark?  Many times, I have caught myself
weeping with joy as I let go of my troubles and focused on a beautiful
tree.

The Seal of Melchizedek and the Design of the San Diego Temple | Meridian Magazine

This 8-point star, perhaps best known as the Seal of Melchizedek, is a
symbol of Christ. President Gordon B. Hinckley was sufficiently
impressed with the symbol that he asked it be added to the Salt Lake
City Temple.

How, you may ask, did this ancient symbol suddenly capture such
modern attention? Seemingly by coincidence, if you believe in that. Our
story begins with the design of the San Diego Temple by an architectural
team completely unaware of any particular significance of the symbol.
Then, we will take a look at the history, meanings, and mysteries of
this ancient symbol uncovered by subsequent research.

God’s Purposes Cannot Be Thwarted | Meridian Magazine

In a world so full of evil and chaos, it is easy to feel outnumbered
and overwhelmed by the powers of the adversary that seem to thwart good
efforts on every hand. Sometimes it is easy to feel just plain afraid of
the tsunami of evil that is sweeping the earth. We recoil from the
suffering of innocents, and may dread the fulfillment of the most
dreadful last-days prophecies.

What gives us the courage to carry on is the recognition that the war
in heaven was not a simplistic choice between freedom and coercion, or
risk vs. the assurance of salvation. In the book The Crucible of Doubt, authors
Terryl and Fiona Givens suggest that Satan’s forces won so many because
they were shown how unthinkably terrible the consequences of unfettered
agency would be. They suggest that when the very real, vivid,
inevitable pageant of warfare, genocide, infant mortality, anguish for
sin and personal bereavement was unfolded to our eyes in celestial
councils, it threatened to derail the entire pl…
