A New Years Eve Celebration Where Time Begins in Tonga

Image
The first country in the world to greet the New Year, each and every year, is Tonga in the South Pacific. That is because it lies very close to the 180th parallel (12 hours ahead of Greenwich). It sits directly on the International Dateline. http://www.tongatapu.net.to/tonga/homeland/timebegins.htm
Tongans value their relationship with God and others. The whole first week of the New Year is called Uike Lotu (prayer week). Every day church congregations meet and pray morning and evening, and in between they feast together. Bands all over the island take their instruments, sometimes-homemade banjos, bass and guitars, and go from home to home hoping for some provisions in exchange for their music.

The Quorum of the Twelve Before They Were Called: Richard G. Scott

Image
Richard G. Scott serves as an Apostle for the Quorum of the Twelve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But did you know that as a kid, his parents trusted him and his brothers to fix the family car? They once put a caboose whistle on the exhaust manifold as a joke (“Richard G. Scott”). In this biography of Richard G. Scott, read about how he came to learn and love the gospel, the influence of his beloved wife, and his faithfulness to the Church.
Learning, Following, and Teaching the Gospel Something Was Missing Richard G. Scott was not raised in a home that was active in the gospel. His father wasn’t a member of the Church, and his mother was inactive. However, his parents did instill good values and character in their children. Richard’s home teachers and ward leaders encouraged him to attend church. However, he admits that he sometimes did so reluctantly.

Disney Princess Frozen Happy Birthday Party

Image
Lily Ruth just turned six years old. She has special needs because she was born with spina bifida. She has a bright pink wheelchair with wheels that light up.

Lily has a beautiful singing voice and recently sang a solo at a concert while she sang "Where Are You Christmas?" She has enough confidence to sing in front of a large audience and we are so happy for her.

At the end of the Christmas Concert, there was a special guest who came out and greeted everyone and then danced with them. It was Olaf from "Frozen". The stage was full of performers doing their thing.

Visit Temple Square in Salt Lake City

Image
A highlight of our Christmas holidays was the time we went with someof our children and grandchildren to visit Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Each year they decorate the trees with thousands of tiny colored lights. It is truly a winter wonder land with the majestic LDS Temple standing out in the midst of them.
