A Late-Night Talk Show With Andy Bumatai and Cubworld - Yahoo Voices - voices.yahoo.com

Move over Jay Leno, Letterman and Jimmy Fallon. In Hawaii
we have Frank Delima, Oggy T, Bula Laie and my favorite, Andy Bumatai.
There are a handful of "funnymen" who are well known in Hawaii. We also
have a late-night talk show featuring local entertainment and guests. We
were invited to be in the audience to hear our youngest son perform
after he auditioned for the live show, Nightime with Andy Bumatai.

Images of Paradise

Paradise is different for each person. To me, paradise is a place where
you have no worries, everything is beautiful, and you can just relax and
live happily ever after. Colors are more colorful. Beauty is more
beautiful. Love is even more lovely. Is there really such a place? The
closest that I have come to this idyllic existence has been here in
Hawaii. Of course, it is not present every single day, but now and then,
in brief moments, there are little glimpses of what Paradise may be
like.

A Port of Refuge in the Islands of Tonga

My favorite place in the entire world is Vava’u, Tonga. Why would I say that? Because I have never relaxed as much as I did while I was in Vava'u. Life is still simple there so rushing is not allowed nor recommended.

Most Well-Known Songs of Hawaii

There are a few Hawaiian songs that are known throughout the United
States and internationally. Living in Hawaii, I now know there are
hundreds more.

See if you can recognize the ones I am thinking of:

Movies Filmed in Hawaii

Since 1913, there have also been over 200 movies filmed in Hawaii. These are some of my favorite movies in which the producers and actors flew all the way to Hawaii. I will only list two of the actors from each movie and give a short summary of what it is about.

How to Make a Hawaiian Plumeria or other Flower Lei

Sharing Aloha
Lei giving is part of living in Hawaii. Leis represent the aloha spirit.
They are given for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, graduation,
weddings, anniversaries, for special guests at meetings on Sunday, and
of course, when tourists arrive or family comes to visit.

Illegal Alien Arrested for Working in Tonga

One rainy day while sitting at my office in Tonga, a policewoman dropped in and gruffly told me to follow her. I asked her why, and she told me to just get up and come with her. It was pouring outside and I did not have an umbrella. I did not want to make her upset, so I stepped outside and became drenched in a few seconds. My mind was racing, trying to think about what might have precipitated this uncomfortable and threatening situation I was in. We had been living in Tonga for eight years. I am from the mainland USA and had married my handsome Polynesian husband and had followed him to his island home.

Tongan Watermelon Drink Otai

Origin of 'Otai

ʻOtai is a fruit drink,
which originated in Tonga. They make variations of the drink with scraped
mangos and vi (which is a native Tongan fruit). In Tonga they don't usually
have half and half, but instead use freshly squeezed coconut milk, that is the
most delicious to me. This is not to be mistaken for the juice of the coconut. I'll
save that for another hub.

Tongans even crack out the water biscuits or breakfast
crackers and just break that into the drink, which adds more dimension!!

How to Make Bird Feeders from Recycled Containers

I just love when birds some to visit my little back yard. They
take my mind off the housework for a second and bring me a sense of
wonder and a moment of amusement.

I found that I can make a bird feeder quite easily with a few things
that are hanging around the house. I usually have a few plastic bottles
ready to take to the recycling bin. By preparing a bird feeder, I can
get the birds to come and stay for a while by giving them a little more
incentive.

Conserving the Extensive Ecosystems of Hawaii

I am concerned about our beautiful islands of Hawaii. Did you know that Hawaii is home to 319 threatened and endangered plants? There are also endangered animals including the Hawaiian monk seal and sea turtles amongst others. Hawaii has been listed by the Endangered Species Coalition as in need of conservation. There are shallow water coral reefs which are also in danger. This report was give by the Pacific Business News recently.

My Visit to the King of Tonga

My first official visit to the King, Taufa’ahau Tupou IV was in 1989. My husband had just been called as the new mission president over the small island kingdom of Tonga. Our mission office contacted the spokesperson for the King to arrange for an audience with His Majesty for us and for a group of our missionaries. Our formal meeting would take place at His Majesty’s Royal Summer Cottage. In order for our party to have this audience with the King, we were expected to prepare a meal for him and his royal family. The food we prepared in response to the King’s request, included turkeys, ham, potato salad, and trifle (The King’s favorite dessert). We arrived with about twenty of our missionaries each carrying beautifully decorated offerings.

Story of the Cursed Tiki

From the beginning of this earth, there have been curses. Because the serpent beguiled Eve, he was cursed above all the beasts of the field. Then because Adam listened to his wife, the ground was cursed so he would have to work hard the rest of his life to take care of them. The Lord cursed Cain for killing his brother Abel. Cain became a fugitive and vagabond. God also cursed all those who took a covenant with Satan. In the days of Moses, if someone cursed God he could be put to death by stoning. It seems like there is plenty of cursing going on in the scriptures. Read Deut. 27:15-26.

The Coolest Places in Hawaii for Shave Ice

Mainlanders call them snow cones, but in Hawaii the coolest treat around is shave ice. It is not shaved ice, rather just shave ice ! For those taking a drive around the islands, or trying to cool off after a day on the beach, nothing hits the spot like shave ice. It is snow! No, it is a drink, and you can eat it with a spoon straw! http://elayne001.hubpages.com/hub/The-Coolest-Place-in-Hawaii-Matsumoto-Shave-Ice

Fairview Museum of History and Art in Utah

A Sentimental Journey I recently went on a sentimental journey with my father to Sanpete County in Utah. He wanted to drive to where he was born, raised, married and worked. My husband came along, and we taped my father as he recalled places, dates and people that had influenced him through his life. Mother passed away a few years ago, and my father often thinks about her and the relationship they had.
